Empathy – Diary Entry

Choose an important moment in the story for one of the characters and write a diary entry for that character (ie. what that character would put into his or her personal diary for that day when the important thing happened). Try to write in a style you think fits the character's personality.

Christopher just got to the train station and is about to go to London. While waiting for the train (he doesn‘t need to in the story but I chose this point to review his experiences)

I started writing this diary entry because I need to wait for my train and when I write diary entrys I dont need to look at strangers and see everything because there would be too much information for me to handle and I would start groaning again. But if I started groaning again some strangers would notice me and talk to me and I dont like strangers talking to me.
I will go and live with mother now until I go university because my father lied to me and you dont lie to people that you like. Also he killed Wellington and might kill me too.
So when I saw my fathers van parked in the car park next to my school I was sick again. But after I cleand the sick away from my mouth I decided to life my mother until I go to university so I needed to find the train station. I had to talk to a stranger but it was a mother with her son and at school they told us that women are less dangerous than men. She didn‘t tell me precisely enough where to go but I knew that if you are looking for something that is nearby you are able to find it by moving in a spiral. So I moved in a spiral and that‘s how I got to the trainstation. A nice policeman helped me finding the ticket office and because he was a policeman I felt much safer. Now I need to take my train so I can find mother in London. I think Toby will like it when I give him some more pellets of rat food.

Recount – The Story

In your own words what has happened in the book? At any point in the story, retell the major details of the story's plot so far.  The story begins with Christopher discovering Wellington‘s body. Because he likes dogs, he decides to find out who killed him and to write a book about it. To be a good detective, Chrisopher needs to grow far beyond his borders, the borders he has because of his aspergers syndrome. But it’s not only his own that Christopher crosses because in telling white lies and doing things his father forbid him to to, they get into a lot of fights with each other and their relationship starts falling apart more and more. And while investigating his case, Christopher comes across a lot more than just Wellingtons murderer, which is by the way his own father. He finds out that his presumed dead mother was still alive but she she ran away with Mr. Shears, the neighbour she had an affair with. She tried to contact Christopher many times in the past, but his father...

Empathy – 5 Questions asked to: Ed Boone

Write down 5 questions you would like to ask a character. Say why you would like to ask these questions. I'd like to ask Ed Boone 5 questions. Question 1: How and when did you find out that Christopher has the Asperger’s Syndrome? I’d like to ask him this question because I assume that in the first few years of your child’s life you wouldn’t realise that there is something wrong. I wonder when and which signs they detected first. Question 2: Do you think Christopher’s disability had something to do with your marriage not going so well? Only watching from the sidelines it is very hard to estimate how difficult it might be for parents and their own relationship to have a child with Asperger’s Syndrome, especially if the child can’t show you it’s love the way other children would. Question 3: Do you wish Christopher would show you more often that he loves you? I think I already know his answer, however as a reader you don’t get to know much about about E...

Characterization – Relationship Ed and Chris Boone

Write about the relationship between two characters and how it is changing or developing.  What are the characteristics of the relationship? What does it work or not work? What is changing? How do they effect one another? The relationship between Chrisopher and Ed Boone. I’d read further in my book and found out a lot of new information. My guess about the storyline of the book is confirmed – that it is about much more than just finding out who killed Wellington. After Judy’s alleged death Christopher and Ed had a rough but profound relationship and were used to one another. Ed had known his son well and Christopher believed he’d known his father. But Christopher’s investigation led him into a situation that he shouldn’t have gotten himself into.  Christopher is anyway having a hard time putting trust into people. But after he found out that his mother had still been alive (and left them) and his father had killed Wellington, he felt like the world was cras...
