Characterization – Relationship Ed and Chris Boone

Write about the relationship between two characters and how it is changing or developing.  What are the characteristics of the relationship? What does it work or not work? What is changing? How do they effect one another? The relationship between Chrisopher and Ed Boone. I’d read further in my book and found out a lot of new information. My guess about the storyline of the book is confirmed – that it is about much more than just finding out who killed Wellington. After Judy’s alleged death Christopher and Ed had a rough but profound relationship and were used to one another. Ed had known his son well and Christopher believed he’d known his father. But Christopher’s investigation led him into a situation that he shouldn’t have gotten himself into.  Christopher is anyway having a hard time putting trust into people. But after he found out that his mother had still been alive (and left them) and his father had killed Wellington, he felt like the world was cras...

Empathy – 5 Questions asked to: Ed Boone

Write down 5 questions you would like to ask a character. Say why you would like to ask these questions. I'd like to ask Ed Boone 5 questions. Question 1: How and when did you find out that Christopher has the Asperger’s Syndrome? I’d like to ask him this question because I assume that in the first few years of your child’s life you wouldn’t realise that there is something wrong. I wonder when and which signs they detected first. Question 2: Do you think Christopher’s disability had something to do with your marriage not going so well? Only watching from the sidelines it is very hard to estimate how difficult it might be for parents and their own relationship to have a child with Asperger’s Syndrome, especially if the child can’t show you it’s love the way other children would. Question 3: Do you wish Christopher would show you more often that he loves you? I think I already know his answer, however as a reader you don’t get to know much about about E...

Reflection – First Impressions

Write down your first impressions of the book or play. Ask some questions. Write down quotations. Copy whole passages that are difficult or that you really like a lot. The book «The curious incident of the dog in the night-time» brings a smile to your face even before you open it. The description tells us in an unusual objective way about the quirks of Christopher Boone, a little boy (and detective) with the Asperger’s Syndrome.  The author works with a very interesting writing: there are many «and’s», the sentences use to be rather short and there are similar structures and repetitions of the sentences when Christopher is giving us information.  Only reading a few pages of the book, you already get the impression of seeing his world through his eyes – but most of the times understanding the people around him better than he does himself. Sometimes I feel sorry for him, but at other times I’m happy that he doesn’t get all the things happening around him.  I ...
