Characterization - Letter to Judy

Write a short letter to the author/playwright or to one of the characters. Tell them what is on your mind.

Dear Judy Boone

When I started reading the book, I felt sad about you not being part of this family anymore. But then I learned that you left your family - your beloved son and your husband. You didn‘t even try to get anything right, you simply ruined these other peoples lifes with your selfishness. I don’t know what happened to you but the way you write your letters trying to poorly convince Christopher, but rather yourself that you are not being the worst mother and wife of all time? Please. Despite the fact that you must be quite dumb because there are spelling errors in almost every sentence you write, there must also be many more issues about you. Do you really think that after leaving your own family it is enough for your husband and son to just write a letter from time to time? You REALLY don‘t miss your own kid enough to even try seeing him once?
You know, deciding to give birth to a child is not something you should do just to be a mother of a good little kid, you decide to live with all the responsibility coming with it. What the fuck is wrong with you giving bith to a beautiful and perfect human being but leaving it and its father behind because you imagined your life going different? You thought hoeing around with another guy wouldn’t solve your problems?
Congratulations, I really think you’re one of the dumbest people I‘ve ever met and I feel sorry for all the pain that people suffered because of you.

Sincere,
Me.

Recount – The Story

In your own words what has happened in the book? At any point in the story, retell the major details of the story's plot so far.  The story begins with Christopher discovering Wellington‘s body. Because he likes dogs, he decides to find out who killed him and to write a book about it. To be a good detective, Chrisopher needs to grow far beyond his borders, the borders he has because of his aspergers syndrome. But it’s not only his own that Christopher crosses because in telling white lies and doing things his father forbid him to to, they get into a lot of fights with each other and their relationship starts falling apart more and more. And while investigating his case, Christopher comes across a lot more than just Wellingtons murderer, which is by the way his own father. He finds out that his presumed dead mother was still alive but she she ran away with Mr. Shears, the neighbour she had an affair with. She tried to contact Christopher many times in the past, but his father...

Empathy – 5 Questions asked to: Ed Boone

Write down 5 questions you would like to ask a character. Say why you would like to ask these questions. I'd like to ask Ed Boone 5 questions. Question 1: How and when did you find out that Christopher has the Asperger’s Syndrome? I’d like to ask him this question because I assume that in the first few years of your child’s life you wouldn’t realise that there is something wrong. I wonder when and which signs they detected first. Question 2: Do you think Christopher’s disability had something to do with your marriage not going so well? Only watching from the sidelines it is very hard to estimate how difficult it might be for parents and their own relationship to have a child with Asperger’s Syndrome, especially if the child can’t show you it’s love the way other children would. Question 3: Do you wish Christopher would show you more often that he loves you? I think I already know his answer, however as a reader you don’t get to know much about about E...

Characterization – Relationship Ed and Chris Boone

Write about the relationship between two characters and how it is changing or developing.  What are the characteristics of the relationship? What does it work or not work? What is changing? How do they effect one another? The relationship between Chrisopher and Ed Boone. I’d read further in my book and found out a lot of new information. My guess about the storyline of the book is confirmed – that it is about much more than just finding out who killed Wellington. After Judy’s alleged death Christopher and Ed had a rough but profound relationship and were used to one another. Ed had known his son well and Christopher believed he’d known his father. But Christopher’s investigation led him into a situation that he shouldn’t have gotten himself into.  Christopher is anyway having a hard time putting trust into people. But after he found out that his mother had still been alive (and left them) and his father had killed Wellington, he felt like the world was cras...
