Write down your first impressions of the book or play. Ask some questions. Write down quotations. Copy whole passages that are difficult or that you really like a lot.
The book «The curious incident of the dog in the night-time» brings a smile to your face even before you open it. The description tells us in an unusual objective way about the quirks of Christopher Boone, a little boy (and detective) with the Asperger’s Syndrome.
The author works with a very interesting writing: there are many «and’s», the sentences use to be rather short and there are similar structures and repetitions of the sentences when Christopher is giving us information.
Only reading a few pages of the book, you already get the impression of seeing his world through his eyes – but most of the times understanding the people around him better than he does himself. Sometimes I feel sorry for him, but at other times I’m happy that he doesn’t get all the things happening around him.
I ask myself all the time where this story will lead the readers to – is it really about the killing of Wellington, or will there be a twist, and in reality it was all about the things Christopher is going to find out about himself during his investigation?
I am really looking forward finish the book and find out.

I'm happy that you like it and I agree with you on all points. Why do you think the author chose this style of writing?

LöschenI think he chose this style to make it clear that Christopher is not yet an adult and still an adolescent character. It also emphasizes with his disability, because the book is not written from the view of the not involved educated author, but from Christopher himself, the young and innocent main character. From my point of view this makes the whole story more unique and interesting (:
LöschenYes, I think so too. It really makes it "feel" like you're listening to Christopher's thought, right?
